We have all heard
the expression “make time for the one you love” but all too often we
don’t make time for WHAT we love. Making time for a hobby is not selfish
or frivolous but essential to our mental health and the overall well being
of our families. We would like to quote a recent article addressing this.
“In today’s tough economy,
when everyone is tightening their belts, it can feel self-indulgent,even
irresponsible, to spend time and money on pursuits that don’t contribute
to your bottom line. But experts say that this is precisely the time when
you should make room for the pastimes you love, to help you stay
clearheaded and happy. During times of hardship and stress, playing really
does prepare you for problem solving. When you use your imagination and
have a heightened mood, you open possibilities that you wouldn’t think
of otherwise. In other words, when you’re running, gardening or working
on glass you might just find a creative solution to your money woes or at
least cope with them a lot better. The benefits of doing what makes you
happy—a boost in optimism, greater resilience under stress, and more
perseverance and creativity, to name a few-are most powerful when you do
something just for the joy of it”.
“And
here’s a bonus: While your own pleasure should be reason enough to do
what you love, you’ll also reap benefits in your relationships at home
and at work. Happiness is contagious. When you’re happy, everyone else
absorbs your mood. When you’re stressed, they absorb that too”.
Make this the year to start a new hobby or pick up the one you have let
go. Go to your workshop and “redd up”. Stop in and see what’s
new and interesting, take a refresher class and watch the difference.
If you’ve always thought you
wanted to try doing stained glass or fusing we have classes that are very
reasonably priced. Our Beginning Stained Glass is the best bargain around,
and you don’t have to buy any tools to take this class. Also, we’re
offering a new class, Fused Pictures in Glass! The only pre-requisite is
glass cutting experience. This would be a great way to try fusing.
Check out the new class
